7. The Magician’s Nephew

The Magician’s Nephew is the story of how Narnia began. It begins in England but travels rapidly to other places - dead, dying lands fraught with Deep Magic, to a place that has no sun - yet.

The Magician’s Nephew is the mesmerizing fairie tale of how Aslan created Narnia and gave the gift of speech to its inhabitants. It follows the journey of evil into the young land and recounts the quest to expell that wrong and protect the young land of Narnia.

This is a must-read for anyone remotely interested in the world of Narnia as it explains the origin of the place and also paves the way for the first adventure of the series - The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.

Personal Rating: 8
The Magician’s Nephew has more of the fairy-tale in it than do the other books in the Chronicles of Narnia. At the same time, it explores the epic along with the breathtakingly beautiful imagery that haunts it’s fellow stories. C.S. Lewis’ deep insight of the human nature shows itself in full force throughout the tale.

Content Rating: E
Need I say it again? The Chronicles of Narnia - all of them - are excellent reading for people of all ages.
